It's empty (or just about) at the moment but I've prepared several categories. Please feel free to register and participate.
Though I plan on very actively pushing content to this site, and the weblog at news.ode-is-simple.com, the forum is intended to be a community effort, as well as a resource.
Do we need another publishing platform? You might guess that my answer to that question is, "Yes! At least I think we need this one."
Let's start by talking about what Ode isn't. It's not antoher WordPress. I think the people responsible for that platform are doing just about as good a job with it as is possible.
If you're looking for something with a relational database management system like MySQL at the backend and 4+ MB worth of PHP, Javascript and CSS then you really should check out that project. I'm not being insincere or cynical I really do think WordPress is pretty fantastic, but Ode is something different.
That package (and many others) do more than Ode at the moment but as I've already said, Ode is different.
Different how? Ode is simple.
- Ode itself is a single Perl script.
- Content are simple plain-text files.
- The look at layout of an Ode site is determined by a theme that is nothing more than standard (X)HTML and CSS.
Is that all there is to it?
Are Legos just interconnectable plastic blocks?

Ode?...
Glad you asked. It's a new platform for creating weblogs (and other types of dynamic sites) which emphasizes simplicity, both in terms of usability and design. The idea is that anyone who is interested should be able to understand how the program works at the source code level.

Why do we need weblogs?
Isn't Facebook enough? Ask yourself if you're comfortable handing over all of your content to a service that you have no control over for the luxury of wading through ads, and then hoping that they don't change the terms of service at a moment's notice in such a way that you're no longer comfortable with their policies.
Worst case scenario, you could be cut off from both your friends and your content.
That would be a sad :(
Perhaps more important is the fact that we already have a web. If you're like me, you don't see the need to build a web on top of the web and put it in the hands of a single commercial entity. Something about that just doesn't feel like a step in the right direction.
The beauty of the web is its distributed, interconnected diversity!
The good news is that there all alternatives. Start a weblog and invest in your own online presence. Through your weblog, you can keep in touch with friends and family, link to and discuss topics of interest to you, interact with online services like Twitter, YouTube, Flickr, and Google Maps, just to name a few, and that's just the beginning. Your weblog is yours. It's Your own little slice of the Web.
